Hi, I’m Arun.
Hi, I'm Cherry, and this is our EV. We currently live in suburban Melbourne. We have three little kids.
We have solar panels and a battery and two EVs. We try to spend most of the day using the electricity generated from the panels to charge our cars, use our high energy appliances, while the sun is shining. Cloudy days, rainy days obviously are not going to generate any solar. But then if you think about how much a kilowatt is worth, depending on your electricity provider, you're spending between ten and $12 to fully charge your car.
So it's a huge difference when you think about what we used to pay to fill up our diesel car compared to our EV We predominantly charge our cars at home, but it's really easy to find charging spaces within the city. A lot of car parks offer free EV charging spaces that we take advantage of.
We can still do everything you can do with an internal combustion engine car with our EVs. And I think a lot of holiday destinations now understand that as well. And they have charging facilities set up for EV drivers coming there. When we did the road trip to Yarrawonga, we found a midpoint where we could charge and then when we got to our destination, there was facilities to charge there as well.
Every car comes with a home charging system that allows you to plug into a power point. Just bring along an extension cord if you're going somewhere where you're not sure where there's a EV charger.
Being a family with three little kids. We needed the boot space. We needed to think about a big car, prams, going, school bags, etc. We've been so impressed with what you can get in an EV, equivalent space, and the kids are comfortable in there and they're super, super snazzy and super fast. Which I really enjoy.
And I think there's lots of good information now, both on Victorian and federal websites, on what you can do to start that journey.
