Licensed Electrical Inspector training

Solar Victoria has appointed Future Energy Skills (FES) to develop a comprehensive suite of industry-validated learning and assessment materials for Licensed Electrical Inspectors (LEI).

This new training program will encourage more qualified electricians to become LEIs and will build skills and capability for solar as well as new energy technologies for existing inspectors.

Supporting the LEI industry through training will provide added benefits for retailers, installers and customers also – reducing inspection wait times for Certificates of Electrical Safety and increasing the quality of safety inspections.

The expertise and industry intelligence of a Project Steering Committee will guide and provide subject matter expert knowledge to the content and delivery of this pilot program.

About the training

The suite of learning and assessment materials will include interactive, visual media and graphic design content for the following skill sets.

Skill set 1 – Electrical inspector requirements, installation fundamentals, and inspecting and testing

This is aimed at upskilling electricians to become licensed electrical inspectors. It will give them the skills and knowledge to carry out general electrical inspections, and to undertake the Energy Safe Victoria required “G Class” assessments.

It will also equip participants with the skills and knowledge to perform electrical inspections accurately and competently in the field.

Skill set 2 – Inspect and test electricity generation systems

This is aimed at upskilling LEIs and auditors to become specialists in the inspection of new generation systems – especially solar and battery installations.

It will equip participants with the skills and knowledge to perform electrical inspections accurately and competently on new generation systems in the field.

About Future Energy Skills

Future Energy Skills is a specialist project and assessment service provider for the new energy, electrical inspection and electrotechnology sectors.

Since 2000, FES has been the sole provider of LEI theory assessments and last year developed a new work simulated assessment facility for the G Class assessment. FES has the only independent assessment centre for hazardous vocations in the sector.

Their quality service has led to long standing service agreements with Energy Safe Victoria to provide LEA and LEI assessments.

The appointment of FES follows an extensive public tender process.
